You say Owens is "back to normal" but he has yet to show anything like the dominating form he had the past two seasons during his zoom climb in the Pirates' minor league system. Owens is the quintessential "lefthanded control pitcher", which is not a bad thing as long as his margin for error is a bit greater than what it was for guys like Zach Duke and Paul Maholm (though I will always maintain that Paul was much better than Zach in terms of raw ability but was cut down by multiple injuries).


Looks to me like a lot of the four-A types in Triple A who have big league experience have eaten Rudy's lunch. That doesn't bode well for his major league future, though there is still plenty of time for him to right the ship. But I'd say Justin Wilson has passed him as the top Pirates' minor league pitcher.
